Change your Plan when you become eligible with Medicare

{Susan}
My name is Susan Allgood and I am a senior relationship manager with Aetna Federal Plans.

Many people ask if retirement is a Qualifying Life Event (QLE) that lets you change your health plan under the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program. While retiring is not considered a QLE by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), becoming eligible for Medicare is a QLE. You can switch to any available FEHB plan, at any time, beginning the 30th day before you become eligible for Medicare. You don’t have to wait until Open Season.

There’s no time limit to use this Qualifying Life Event. So, if you haven’t already used it, you still can. But just a heads up, you can make an enrollment change for this event only once.

If you have Medicare, the time is now to switch to a new health plan designed just for federal retirees that can help you save money!

Check out the link below for more information about Qualifying Life Events when you become eligible for Medicare.
